March 31 Meeting: Encouraging One Another

Hi all!

Hope you’re doing well in spite of the funky weather!

We’ll be meeting next Thursday, March 31 at 7:00 pm at Panera Bread, located at 1780 East Jefferson Street, Rockville, MD 20852, Tel: (301) 881-5515.

We’ll be discussing how we can encourage one another, whether that means encouraging one another to take care of ourselves with diet and exercise, or encouraging others in prayer or spiritual disciplines. How do you encourage others? When do you need encouragement?

Discussion: Vocation & Calling

After a long break, we’re gathering together again to discuss vocation! Come join us as we talk about the words “vocation” and “calling” and what these loaded words mean for our lives. How do we explore our callings? How can we tell what God is calling us to do? Do our vocations change over time?

We’ll be meeting at 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 24 at Panera Bread located at 1780 East Jefferson Street, Rockville, MD 20852, Tel: (301) 881-5515.

What’s Your Calling?

PBS will be airing a film entitled, The Calling, this evening (check local listings!) about 7 young students pursuing the religious life: http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/calling/

In conjunction with this film, the website http://www.whatsyourcalling.org/ features video clips about people following their calling (secular or religious) and what it means to have a vocation.

Slight Schedule Change For Monday!

Next Monday, November 22, we will hold the Taizé worship at 6:30 and then have the discussion from 7:00 until about 8:00 pm!

Froth, Faith, and Taizé…Oh My!!

Happy November, everyone!

This month, we’ll be doing something a little different. On Monday, November 22, we will meet at Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 11200 Old Georgetown Road, North Bethesda, MD 20852.

We will meet beginning at 6:30 pm as we usually do, but at 7:30, we will move from the Social Hall to the sanctuary to worship in the style of Taizé until about 8:00 pm. For those who have not experienced Taizé, the services are meditative and contemplative in nature, revolving around Scripture readings, prayer, and repetitive singing. For our discussion, please eat beforehand or plan to eat after. We will have snacks, but not a full dinner. In light of Thanksgiving, our discussion topic will be “thankfulness.” What does being thankful mean? How can we practice giving thanks every day in our lives? How does being thankful affect our lives and the lives of those around us? To add to our conversation, bring ideas for how we can incorporate an attitude of thanksgiving into our everyday lives.

October Meeting!

Hi everyone,

I hope your fall has been enjoyable thus far! On Monday, October 25, 2010 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. we will be holding our next open discussion at Panera Bread, located at 1780 E Jefferson Street Rockville, MD 20852.

The topic for the meeting will be “Justice.” What does it mean to say that “God is just?” What does God’s justice look like? What is social justice? How do justice and mercy go together?

Bring your questions, comments, and, of course, appetites as we think about this topic together.

September Meeting

After a summer break, we’re gearing up for the fall! Our next meeting will be Monday, September 27th at Panera located at 1780 E Jefferson Street Rockville, MD 20852. We will meet at 6:30 pm and go until 8:00 or so.

This meeting, we will be talking about images of God. Is God an old man with a beard? Is God a woman? Does God even have a physical image? Bring your thoughts, ideas, and questions on this subject and we’ll enjoy tasty food and good company while discussing!

Hi all,

Many thanks to all who joined us last night for discussion ranging from the book The Secret and its principles to the financial state of young people, to dreams and karma, to helping the homeless, to why bad things happen to good people and how God can allow such things to take place.

Next month, we’re thinking about heading into DC to view art and discuss how it connects to faith and spirituality. Keep your eye on the blog or on our Facebook page for more info!
